It has been a superb week of music at Trinity, with exceptional performances across our singing, brass and strings competitions. While our Trinity Musician of the Year competition celebrates our most elite performers, these sectional competitions are designed with multiple levels so that every student, from beginner to advanced, has the opportunity to take part.

Competitions like these are about far more than prizes. They give students a clear goal to work towards, the experience of performing under pressure, and the invaluable opportunity to receive expert feedback from professional musicians.

Well done to every student who took part!

Singing

On Tuesday evening, our singers took to the stage for a wonderful celebration of solo performance. For some students it was their first time singing alone in front of an audience. For others, it was a chance to share new repertoire and developing voices. Charmian Bedford, Vocal Director of Junior Guildhall and an Olivier Award-winning performer, adjudicated the event. She described her task of choosing winners as “almost impossible”, praising the boys’ storytelling and their ambition in tackling advanced songs.

Our resident pianist Andrei Iliushkin accompanied with sensitivity and flair, creating true collaborative performances.
