The Trinity Open Art Awards are now open for submissions! The annual art competition, which has been running since 2008, is open to the whole school community including students, family (parents and siblings) and staff.

There is no set theme, aspiring artists are encouraged to be ambitious and free in their subjects and media – video, needlework, painting, photography. Selected entries will be on display at the school, with a private view of the work.

Submissions should be brought to the School Reception, clearly labelled with name, contact details and work title (if there is one), with reference to the Open Art Award competition. Deadline for all entries is: Tuesday 3 June.

Parents will be invited to a private view where they will be informed of the winners. Separate prizes will be awarded to entries from Lower School, Middle School and Upper School with one overall winner taking away the glass trophy as part of the final assembly this term. There will also be a prize awarded for family and staff entry.

Last year’s overall winner was First Year Jamie H who submitted a stunning, coloured-pencil drawing of a green turtle, which impressed the judges with its imaginative theme and skilful approach. Jamie was inspired to create a piece when he learned about how turtles are endangered because of humans. He said, “The green turtle is extremely important to marine ecosystems because it eats seagrass and keeps the seagrass meadows under control and healthy, allowing other creatures to lay their eggs there. Green turtles also migrate long distances helping biodiversity as they carry organisms from seagrass meadows and beaches to coral reefs, like the one in my drawing. I’ve called it ‘Back on Track’.”
