A team of Trinity climbers took on the challenge of the Independent Schools Climbing Championship – a fiercely contested regional climbing competition – last week. They faced 24 schools and 225 competitors in an intense six-hour test of strength, skill, and endurance.

The competition was hosted at the White Spider in Surbiton and featured three disciplines—Bouldering (up to V8), Lead Climbing, and Top Rope (up to 7a+), demanding a mix of power, endurance, technique, and mental resilience. Each school entered teams of six, comprising three junior and three senior climbers, with Trinity’s squad showing both experience and emerging talent.

Among the standout performances, Caden (Upper Sixth) delivered an exceptional display of composure and technical ability in the lead climbing category, tackling some of the toughest routes with precision and completing all but the very hardest of them. Zachary (Third Year), one of the younger competitors, impressed with his confidence and determination on challenging bouldering problems, demonstrating the exciting potential of Trinity’s next generation of climbers.

Beyond individual successes, the event highlighted the depth of talent within the team, with both seasoned climbers and fresh faces making a strong impact. It was particularly encouraging to see younger climbers like Eddie (Second Year) and Saahil (Third Year) stepping up to the challenge and gaining valuable competition experience.

Despite the long format, the Trinity climbers remained focused and engaged throughout, supporting one another and showcasing outstanding sportsmanship. The competition not only provided a fantastic test of their abilities but also reinforced the camaraderie and determination that define the school’s climbing community.

With strong performances across the board and promising young climbers coming through, Trinity’s climbing team continues to go from strength to strength. The experience gained in this competition will no doubt serve them well as they set their sights on future challenges. Well done to all involved.

With thanks to Mr Holdsworth, Head of Climbing, for this report.
