The Mitre Theatre came alive on Wednesday night as Trinity’s Drama scholars and LAMDA students took to the stage for this year’s Drama Showcase.
Students from across the year groups performed monologues, duologues and songs they had independently prepared – some inspired by exam set texts, others chosen purely for the joy of performing. Upper Sixth students were excused after the excitement of their A Level performance exam last Friday!
“We were delighted to bring back the Drama Showcase this year, an opportunity for Drama scholars to share monologues, duologues and songs with an audience of family and friends,” said Miss Lucy Robinson, Director of Drama. “There was a great air of excitement backstage as students rallied together to warm up and encourage each other.”
This was the first showcase for First Year Ibby M, Lower Sixth students Sapphy O and Elizabeth HJ. Ibby opened the evening with a dynamic monologue about a child yearning for change – a memorable start to an evening full of passion and creativity.
Miss Reeve, Trinity’s LAMDA teacher, attended to support some of her students who are also Drama Scholars. “It was a perfect opportunity to witness the independent creative choices of the Drama Scholars, their focus in performance, and the diverse range of characterisation within the richly supportive and collaborative environment that the showcase encourages,” she said.
Miss Robinson also praised the behind-the-scenes support that made the night run smoothly, with Upper Sixth students Fatima K operating the lights and Isaac R stepping in to accompany a duet on the piano.
Well done to every student who was involved in this year’s showcase.
