This week, we welcomed audiences to the Mitre Theatre for this year’s Middle School play. Miss Robinson directed ‘Private Peaceful’ starring students in the Third, Fourth and Fifth Year on stage, with a backstage crew ranging from Junior Year to Upper Sixth running the props, lighting and sound.
Miss Robinson, Director of Drama, was delighted with the progress students made in rehearsal: “Since rehearsals in January, students have approached the challenging text with a brilliant energy and enthusiasm, which this week they have channelled into some really powerful performances. It has been fantastic to see everything come together and I hope everyone involved is proud of their efforts.”

After a weekend ‘get in’, Monday’s technical rehearsal and Tuesday’s full dress rehearsal, the cast and crew were ready to welcome their first live audience on Wednesday: students from local prep school Cumnor House who were captivated by the production.
Mrs Baulf, Head of Fourth Year, attended the first performance and said, “The Private Peaceful opening night was a triumph. The recollection war story of Private Tommo Peaceful was told beautifully with moments of drama, humour, and grief (Ms Deas could be heard sobbing in the back row for most of Act 2!). The dynamic set changes took us from the English country to a French tavern and battlefield. All the cast and crew were fantastic, and they should be incredibly proud of all the hard work they put into making it such a success.”
Fifth Year James, often directs Trinity Drama productions but this time was part of the audience. He said, “It was evident the dedication and passion every single person, on and off the stage, put into Private Peaceful. One of my highlights was when the entire ensemble came on for the first time. They really helped drive the energy which enhanced the visual excitement, but also supported the principals who all had outstanding performances; specifically, George (Tommo Peaceful) and Hector (Charlie Peaceful). Overall, every component fused together seamlessly, and it made for a really enjoyable night out.”

The team will reset, ready to perform again Friday night and Saturday matinee – which is completely sold out! They will be looking forward to a deserved rest over the Easter break.
Well done to all students, staff, and many thanks to friends and family who have supported this production in a myriad of ways.
