This week, 10 members of the Technical Theatre Club went on their first trip – to the PLASA (Professional Lighting and Sound Association) Show at Olympia. The event is the UK market-leading trade event for professionals and students working in live entertainment technology.
The event featured a wide range of companies showcasing their latest kit. Our students had the chance to explore and operate various pieces of equipment, which they all really enjoyed. They were particularly impressed with a water gun that shoots water 30ft in the air as well as watching live demonstrations of a smoke jet that shoots smoke 10ft in the air. Although we’re not sure either are quite right for our next whole school drama production…
As well as checking out all the new technologies available, our students engaged with industry professionals, learning about their career paths and the positive influence the industry has had on their lives.
It was a fantastically inspiring outing, led by Miss White our Drama Technician, and the group all came away with lots of ideas for future productions. The students were already asking about going again next year, which might have been to do with the lovely selection of free goodies they also received.
