Although rain was forecast, it only made a brief appearance, and spirits remained high throughout the day. It was a pleasure to welcome both familiar and new faces. Trinity governor and alumnus David Seymour returned with his group, affectionately named ‘Last of the Summer Wine.’ Now regulars at the event, they never miss the chance to have their signature group photo taken!

We were delighted to have secured an incredible prize for a hole-in-one competition on the 16th, but sadly the Kia EV3 was returned to the garage as no one managed to land that elusive shot (this time!). Golfers were tasked with hitting their first tee shot directly into the hole to drive away with the much-anticipated brand-new car, sponsored by Group 1 Autos, Coulsdon. Despite the challenge, it added an exciting, competitive edge to the day.
However, one lucky player – Will from Team Aqua Blue – did walk away with another fantastic prize: a 3-day golf holiday at the stunning Penina Hotel & Golf Resort in Portugal. Well done to him!
We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who donated prizes for both the raffle and the silent auction. Among the incredible offerings were tickets to Harlequins and Saracens games, a day at the races at Lingfield Park, and a variety of golf prizes – including a round at Goodwood Golf Course, a day at The Belfry, Fourball vouchers, and a signed Ian Poulter frame. Thanks to this generosity, no one left empty-handed and thanks to the generosity of our golfers, we raised over £5,000 for the Trinity Bursary Fund on the day.
During the event, we also launched our 60 Year Bursary Challenge, introduced by alumnus David Boxall (Class of 1982). As we celebrate 60 years in our purpose-built school in Shirley Park, every student and member of the community has been challenged to fundraise in support of the Trinity Bursary Fund, keeping our special community richly diverse.
Jason Court, Trinity’s Director of Development, said, “It was a great way to kick off our 60th anniversary campaign where we hope to raise £1.4m to fund a 60-year bursary. Our unique inclusive and diverse Trinity community creates a learning environment where all our students benefit. This learning environment is under direct threat from the escalating cost of fees and the introduction of VAT which actively erodes the accessibility that has always been central to who we are. Thank you to our Trinity Golf Community for such a magnificent effort.”

The Golf Day is organised by the Development and Alumni Team, with tremendous effort from alumnus and Trinity archivist Laurie King. Laurie worked tirelessly over the past six months to secure raffle prizes and rally the community. On the day, he was everywhere – coordinating scorecards, serving as MC, and ensuring golfers were well-stocked with snacks and drinks (ably supported by Donna!). Laurie wore many hats – quite literally – as we also launched our limited-edition 60th Anniversary baseball caps, modelled proudly by our team, with Francesca and Panashe greeting guests at the registration desk.
Laurie said, “This year’s golf day was our best yet, with more golfers taking part, more raffle prizes on offer and more great auction items to bid for. Everyone really enjoyed the day and there was so much fun and laughter on and off the course. Here’s to next year’s monster golf day.”
Save the date! Next year’s Charity Golf Day will take place on Wednesday 20 May. Mark it in your diary and encourage friends and colleagues to join us. We can’t wait to see you there!
