Festival of Ideas 2023: Conference on Imagine

This year, the theme of the Festival of Ideas is, ‘Imagine’. Our four speakers come from different fields and will talk broadly on the topic before referencing their individual experiences. We hope this will then facilitate a discussion on the importance of imagination in the modern world, prompted by questions from you – the audience. We are delighted to invite the following:

Mr Gee

A veteran on the UK’s Live poetry scene for over two decades. His work has been featured in the Times, The Guardian & the New Statesman. He’s presented several radio series: “Bespoken Word”, “Rhyme & Reason” & “Poetic Justice” all on BBC Radio 4, the latter of which focused on the extensive rehabilitation work that he does in prisons. His poetry has been used to launch the 2023 FA Cup Finals and the 2021 Euros.

Professor Julian Ma

Hotung Chair of Molecular Immunology and Director of the Institute for Infection and Immunity at St. George’s, University of London. Graduating in Dentistry in 1983 and gaining a PhD in immunology before moving to work in California.

Abisola Barber

A multi-award winning young professional, Abisola has been recognised by the likes of the Financial Times, Yahoo Finance, the Global Thinkers Forum, The Telegraph and Women in Banking and Finance. Her passion to make a positive contribution to society has led to her global recognition.

Patrick Garvey

Alumnus class of 1996. Co-founder of award-winning Amsterdam based Creative Innovation Consultancy We Are Pi who have been named International Small Agency of the Year three years in a row. He has created ground-breaking international work for brands like Nike, Heineken, LEGO, TED Conferences, Emirates Airlines, Honda, Coca-Cola, and entertainment for Channel 4, Guardian, and the BBC.
