This year’s Field Day saw the whole school go off-timetable for a day of learning beyond the classroom, with students taking part in trips, personal development workshops, co-curricular activities and community action projects.
A key highlight was the Community Action programme, with our Fourth- and Fifth-Year students making a huge impact across the local community. Between them, they contributed a remarkable 800 hours of volunteering in a single day.
Mrs Burrage, Head of Community Action, said, “It is always brilliant to receive feedback from the organisations about what a fantastic time they had working with our students; there’s a reason we keep being invited back to the same places every year!”
Students took part in a wide range of activities across local schools, care homes, libraries, charities and environmental sites. Highlights included helping at Coombe Wood Gardens and Frylands Wood Scout Centre, supporting lessons at local primary schools, performing music for residents at Cranmer Court, donating and sorting books at Shirley Library, and hosting an All Schools Rugby tournament for local children.
Partner feedback has been glowing:
Pam at Coombe Wood Gardens: “The boys got stuck in and worked very well as a team. We received several appreciative comments from members of the public which hopefully made it even more worthwhile.”
Jason at Frylands Wood Scout Centre: “Your young people were enthusiastic, well-behaved and worked alongside our instructors to get a good start on the groundwork of one of our winter projects. On behalf of the Frylands Wood team, a massive thank you to your volunteers!”
Becky at Shirley Library: “They were an absolute pleasure to have with us. Kind, polite and full of enthusiasm, they worked really hard and managed to get a lot of book sorting done.” Thank you to all parents who have donated books for Shirley Library to help bring it back to life as a hub in our community. This year’s Field Day was another fantastic example of students showing care, energy and initiative, putting their values into action and making a tangible difference in the local community.
