Congratulations to the Trinity U13 Water Polo team who won the ESSA National Final yesterday, in a very tightly contested tournament held at Northampton School for Boys. This win means Trinity is now National Water Polo Champions at U13, U15 and U18, for the second consecutive year! Making school history, and perhaps even tournament history.
The team was in Group B and our first game was against Haberdasher’s Boys, which we won Trinity 5-3 Habs. We then lost the second game against KES Birmingham 3-7, which meant we had to play the Group A winners, Whitgift, in the semi-final.
It was a close match, but the U13s dug deep and won 3-2, meaning we faced Dulwich College in the final. Again, it another close match, which ended in a draw 3-3 and then went to penalties. The final score was 6-5 on penalties, and the students were overjoyed.
Mr King, Director of Sport says, “This is an amazing achievement for a group of players who have played less than 10 games in their careers and are genuinely at the very start of their journey. We are thrilled that winning this title means we have, for the second consecutive year, won all three ESSA National Titles (U13, U15 and U18). Well done to all. The hard work starts now!”
It was an extremely close tournament with many of the games only decided by one goal. Both the final and the Bronze medal match ended in penalties. Final results: Trinity School won Gold, Dulwich College Silver, Whitgift School Bronze, King Edward’s School, Birmingham in fourth place, Haberdasher’s Boys’ School in fifth and Northampton School for Boys in sixth. Well done to all students who competed and thanks to Northampton School for Boys for hosting.
The U13 squad: Micah, Adrian (C), Zach, Rounak, Andre, Andre, Leo, Marco, Will B and Will H.
