A group of Lower Sixth students are undertaking a project to raise funds for a local charity as part of their Diploma.
Beyond Conflict is a small local charity working to tackle the unseen psychological suffering of victims of war, terrorism and displacement. While many governments and NGOs are committed to easing the physical impact of conflict on civilians, Beyond Conflict sees the urgent need to address the severe psychological damage. It offers free mental health support to civilians as well as training frontline workers in situ on how to identify and treat trauma.
Like many organisations, the impact of the pandemic has been wide-reaching for the organisation, and so we’re particularly delighted to be working on this project between the students and the charity.
Edna Fernandes, Founder of Beyond Conflict, came in to speak to the students about the charity’s work, and the organisation now plans to run two events in school on Tuesday 16th November to raise funds: A dodgeball tournament for students and a car wash for staff.
If you would like to support their efforts, you can also make a donation on Wisepay under General Payments.
“The charity is run entirely by volunteers; every penny raised through the initiative will go towards running their projects in Bangladesh and beyond.”
Mrs Burrage, Head of Community Action.
