Our Sixth Form sport students recently attended a study day at Loughborough University.

Phoebe Dennis (L6) said: We started the day off with a big breakfast and then made our way to the university for a busy day of inspirational activities. It started with a campus tour, where we saw the highlights of their outstanding sporting facilities.

After lunch we completed a strength and conditioning session at Powerbase, the biggest free weights gym in Europe. A strength and conditioning coach led our session on technique, acceleration, deceleration and power work using a sled.

We then went to the sports physiology lab, where Louis Quarendon and Imogen Smith completed the VO2 max. Meanwhile, the rest of us completed an anaerobic power test on watt bikes.¬† We finished the day with a talk on nutrition from a student completing his masters, exploring the meaning of calories and comparing dishes”.
