Our Sixth Form sport students recently attended a study day at Loughborough University.
Phoebe Dennis (L6) said: “We started the day off with a big breakfast and then made our way to the university for a busy day of inspirational activities. It started with a campus tour, where we saw the highlights of their outstanding sporting facilities.
After lunch we completed a strength and conditioning session at Powerbase, the biggest free weights gym in Europe. A strength and conditioning coach led our session on technique, acceleration, deceleration and power work using a sled.
We then went to the sports physiology lab, where Louis Quarendon and Imogen Smith completed the VO2 max. Meanwhile, the rest of us completed an anaerobic power test on watt bikes. We finished the day with a talk on nutrition from a student completing his masters, exploring the meaning of calories and comparing dishes”.
