This week, a number of students and teachers attended the first session of the Investment Education Society, an initiative set up by Sixth Form student, Dameer.
Dameer had worked hard to arrange the inaugural talk, having invited David Macdonald to present. David is the founder of the Path Financial, an organisation which is committed to minimising its impact on the environment through sustainable investments.
David spoke about the difference between investing and speculation and the risk involved with both. The students enjoyed an overview of the importance of dividends, investment metrics and investment horizons. Hopefully this will be the start of many future sessions to come.
“The importance of financial literacy cannot be overstated,” says Dameer. “This society strives to equip students with know-how.
“Some students have asked to group together over the summer to develop their investing skills and a few suggested that their parents, who work in this field, come in to give a talk as well,” he adds.
Here is the YouTube link for those who couldn’t attend.
"I would like to congratulate Dameer for showing such initiative and getting this up and running. It was great to see the enthusiasm and I look forward to seeing him develop the initiative further."
