After the disruption brought about by COVID-19, Sixth Form student, Emily Leeves, is finally able to compete internationally again and she has travelled to Assen, in the Netherlands, to compete in two prestigious Latin and Ballroom competitions – The Dutch Open to the World Championships and the WDC Amateur League Open World Championships.

These events are normally held separately but have been combined due to travel restrictions.  They see the best Latin and Ballroom dancers from all over the world compete for the ultimate titles.  Emily is representing England in both U19 and U21 age categories, with her dance partner Adam, who is based in Dorset.

Emily began dancing aged nine and is trained by UK closed professional finalists, Clara Guzzardi-Evans and Damian Evans at Caterham Dance School, as well as UK closed professional champions, Lisa Bellinger and Alex Ivanets at A&L Dance Academy in Southampton, where she trains three times a week.

This Saturday evening one of Emily’s life long ambitions will be realised as she has been selected to represent Team GB in the Youth Ballroom Team Match, where three couples from each nation dance as a team, in the ultimate dance off! This is an incredible honour and promises to be a spectacular event, with an opening ceremony and a party atmosphere. Emily’s Grandparents are also flying out to watch.

We wish Emily and Adam the very best of luck!
