Last week, the Drama Department took a group of 90 Third Year Drama students up to London for a matinee performance of the brilliant Back to the Future: The Musical, at the Adelphi Theatre.
Adapted from the 1985 blockbuster film, this new musical has been delighting audiences across the pond and in London, winning awards for best new show in 2022. With original songs, alongside hit songs from the movie, staff and students alike were looking forward to seeing the DeLorean in action.
As well as being a great day out, the students needed to take notes on various aspects of the show as they will be analysing and evaluating the production as part of their end of year Drama exams.
The audience (and student) response to the show was overwhelmingly positive: cheers rang out when young George McFly stood up to Biff, and the second half was full of high-octane stunts, music, lighting and sound effects which defied belief and left the students buzzing with excitement.
Third Year Noah Prestney gives us his review: “Back to the Future: The Musical was an amazing piece of theatre, and it was an amazing experience to be able to attend. Being a big fan of the films myself, I thought it captured the feeling of watching the film well, but with a bit of musical flare.
“Without revealing too much of the plot, the set was phenomenal. The DeLorean was very well done, and the revolving stage was incorporated into the show perfectly, and of course the soundtrack was very catchy. Overall, it was great, and I would recommend it to anyone.”
We were also delighted to receive some lovely feedback via the theatre from two members of the audience (aged 60 and 80) who commended the quiet and respectful behaviour of the students throughout the performances and coming in and out of the theatre. Well done everyone for representing Trinity as we would expect.
