Congratulations to Trinity Upper Sixth student David Aisa Miller who is the first in his group to complete his Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award.

He has worked through the challenging programme of Volunteering, Physical, Skills, Assessed Expedition and a Residential around his A Level studies, and was invited to Buckingham Palace last week in recognition of his achievement. There are just two celebration events a year at Buckingham Palace and they are attended by a member of the Royal Family – in this case Prince Edward, the current Duke of Edinburgh.

David says, “The Gold Celebration event at Buckingham Palace which I attended last week exceeded my expectations. Entering the private gardens was amazing and the ability to roam the different areas freely was wonderful.

“The morning was comprised of several speeches centred around Prince Edward’s address. The people I was lucky enough to hear from included adventurer Sally Orange, England Hockey player Susannah Townsend MBE, TV presenter Charley Boorman and explorer Dwayne Fields. Each speech was inspiring, and every person provided their own unique insight and perspective.

“Ultimately, the event was a great opportunity to acknowledge our hard work and success as Gold DofE holders, and it is an experience I will never forget.

“Thank you so much to all those who have helped me along my journey, it would have been impossible without you! I completely recommend DofE to anyone and everyone. Just give it a go, you never know where it might take you.”

Ms Benzinski has been leading the Trinity DofE programme for many years and says, “The Gold DofE programme is very involved, and it takes a very focused individual to complete every section while also balancing their studies. We’re so pleased that David’s outstanding achievement has been recognised and he enjoyed his wonderful experience at Buckingham Palace, it is very well deserved. We have had the highest number of students pursuing Gold Awards this year, and we look forward to celebrating further achievements over the coming months. DofE is a life-changing experience for many, and a very worthwhile pursuit.”
