Facets of Science – POSTPONED

Location: Trinity Recital Hall

This note that this event has been postponed.

An opportunity for our Upper School students and parents to hear from leading academics and professionals from contrasting areas of science.

Discussing their particular fields, within the boarder scientific landscape, provides context for our students’ A-level studies.   It is an evening that inspires those who are considering a possible career in science, helps refine their academic directions, and is interesting to those who are just curious about the subject.

Our speakers this year are:

Dr Francisco Diego, a Senior Teaching Fellow at UCL, Vice President of the Association for Astronomy Education and fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society. In a whistle-stop tour of 13.8 billion years, he will chart the amazing scientific discoveries made on the nature and development of the Universe, outline the basic chemistry behind all life forms and reflect on the pivotal place mankind now occupies in shaping the future of our fragile paradise.

Dr Vishal Jayakar, an NHS consultant in Haematology-Oncology, lead for Education and Training for haematology at King’s health partners and an experienced speaker who has addressed audiences in countries around the world. Describing himself as ‘fiercely clinical’, he will draw on both his academic work and day-to-day experience in hospital practice to paint an exciting picture of the state-of-the-art science used at the cutting edge of cancer treatment
