First Year students enjoyed some of their first Chemistry practicals recently. The Kitchen Science topic was clearly a hit, with boys exploring reactions and thoroughly enjoying themselves in the lab.

Below is a selection of photos of our budding scientists.

Mr Tristan Heath, Head of Junior Science, explains: “The photos show students using some basic science equipment: Bunsen burner, tripod, gauze, glass beakers, measuring cylinders and thermometers. There is a focus on safety and familiarising the students with a range of equipment while the following few lessons involve using indicator solutions to test a range of ‘unknown’ solutions for pH – the level of acid or alkali. Students then make their own indicator solution from red cabbage!”
