First Year students are currently studying Light and this is always a great opportunity to investigate some key terms – including reflection, refraction, dispersion, transmission and absorption – by practical investigations.
The ray boxes – a traditional idea with new technology lights – are ideal for directing a single beam of light. Students are encouraged to explore and investigate following a range of open-ended questions.
“Extension material is almost always eagerly engaged with during these practical lessons. The students move into the practical application of detecting light by a study of the eye – for many their first dissection,” says Mr Heath, Head of Junior Science.
