Last year, our Musician Of The Year competition was unfortunately cancelled, with the three finalists denied the opportunity to win the coveted award; coinciding as it did with the first lockdown.
So we changed the format for this year to ensure that the competition could be completed. It was an exciting moment last week when our nine finalists stepped up to compete against each other.
TRINITY MUSICIAN OF THE YEAR 2021 – This recording will be available to view from 7pm. 30 April
The finalists each had the opportunity to rehearse with and then be accompanied by two of our piano teachers, Ms Fédérici and Mr Cousin.
Their highly polished performances impressed the adjudicator – composer, conductor and former Principal of the Junior Royal Academy of Music, Mr Jonathan Willcocks – who was very generous in his comments about all of the finalists.
A winner, however, had to be chosen … Many congratulations to the new Trinity Musician Of The Year, Jeanette Szeto, and to Alex Wong who was awarded second prize, with Matthew Gillam in third place.
"All the competitors presented highly polished performances, which was particularly heartening as much of their learning has been online over the past year."
Mr Swinson, Head of Music
