ICT

Head of Department - Mr Chris Marvin

The ICT department is a large well resourced department that not only teaches ICT on the curriculum but maintains links with all other departments in the school to assist them with their use of ICT for teaching and learning. We believe that ICT is an essential tool providing skills and confidence using a wide range of applications and we encourage and teach sensible and safe use of the internet and other forms of computer based communications.

The department has many years experience teaching ECDL and this qualification is taken by all pupils in the first three years (years 7 - 9). Each of the 7 module tests is marked automatically by the computer and a large number of pupils complete the qualification  by the end of the third year. There is also an opportunity for new pupils to take all seven modules in one term during the Upper Sixth.

Over 250 PCs are available for use by students and most classrooms are equipped with a PC and an interactive whiteboard. A large number of these computers are available for use during the morning break, at lunch or after school in supervised areas. A filtered and monitored high speed fibre internet connection is available at every PC provided by the London grid for Learning. All pupils have their own email account which can be accessed along with their own personal folders from home.
