Fire Precautions

Every classroom and laboratory should have a permanent notice giving the fire procedure.

In the event of a fire, the fire alarm should be operated and the evacuation procedure followed.

The date and time of the initial fire drill in the Autumn Term will be notified to all members of staff and pupils. All future fire drills will be carried out under more realistic circumstances and no notification will be given. There will be at least one drill in each of the subsequent terms of the school year.

After each such drill, the Estates Manager, the Deputy Headmaster and other relevant members of the support staff will meet to discuss the success of the drill and to plan for any changes to procedures that may be required.

All Form Tutors should instruct their pupils on the alarm, actions to be carried out and the assembly areas. This should be done on a regular basis.

There will be a weekly fire alarm test, on Mondays at 8.00 a.m. This only involves the Porters and the Fire Officer; no subsequent action is required by any member of staff.
