Aims and Opportunities
Trinity School is a well-known for its excellence in sport. In their three years at Trinity the girls have already made their mark and have grown stronger each year. We believe that sport is part of a healthy and balanced lifestyle, which is why our main aim is to encourage participation in sport, whether it is competitive in one of the school teams, or recreational such as the use of the fitness room. All sports offered to girls at Trinity are open to those who wish to participate, whatever previous level and experience. In addition to the main sport mentioned above, please see the list of sports and activities on offer at Trinity for ideas on how girls can participate, keep active and stay healthy. Due to the small number of girls in the sixth form, many girls who previously would not have considered themselves sportswomen, represent the school and enjoy the benefits that sport can offer. It is also our desire to nurture our strongest performers in their efforts to achieve the highest standards. Our High Performance Programme gives support to students who reach county or national level and hope to go on to further success. All girls take part in the weekly Games session on Wednesdays and the majority of girls play in one or more team sports throughout the year. Senior Training Day for all main sports is on Thursdays.
Hockey is the main sport in the Autumn Term for girls. The school always fields one XI-a-side team and, where possible, another VII-a-side development team for girls who wish to learn the sport. Fixtures are on Wednesdays or Thursdays when we play local schools. We also enter one team into the London Hockey Trophy, which takes place mid-October. Furthermore, we field a mixed Hockey team which play fixtures at the end of the Spring Term.
Netball is mainly played in the Spring Term. Each year we run three Netball teams. The 1st and 2nd team compete in the Croydon League, in Division 1 and 2 respectively, as well as the Surrey County Tournament. We supplement our fixture list by playing friendly matches against local schools. The 3rd team, who also play friendly matches against local schools, is ideal for girls who are new to the sport, or who have not played for a while and wish to start playing again.
Rounders is played in the Summer Term when we enter tournaments, as well as playing friendly fixtures against other schools. Athletics Athletics goes on throughout the Summer Term. We enter various competitions including the English National Schools.
Tennis is played in the summer term. We enter the Surrey tournament, the Branston Shield, as well as some friendly fixtures.
Swimming goes on all year round. We have very successful teams who enter National competitions as well as competing in fixtures against local schools.
Water polo is played in the Autumn and Spring Term. We play friendly fixtures against local schools, as well as enter National competitions.
